Alyssa Sutherland Naked in the Loft Light
The loft is rented by the hour and it smells like old wood and cold coffee. Late afternoon sun comes through the tall industrial windows in one long amber bar, and it lands right across the bed, right across her. Alyssa sits on the edge of the mattress with her knees apart and her hands flat behind her, and she just looks at you for a second too long, letting the quiet do the heavy lifting. She is still dressed. That is the whole point. The denim jacket is open over a thin grey tank, the jeans are old and soft and low, and her hair is loose and a little damp at the temples from the walk up four flights of stairs. When she finally moves, it is slow — one shoulder rolled forward, then the other, and the jacket slides off and drops behind her in a heap of stiff blue cotton.
The light creeps higher as the afternoon drags. It finds her collarbone, the hollow of her throat, the fine pale hair on her forearms. She hooks her thumbs under the hem of the tank and pulls it up an inch at a time, and her stomach comes into view in stages, soft and warm and creased from sitting, and then the underside of her ribs, and then she has to lift her arms to get it over her head and the whole line of her stretches long and thin and gorgeous. The tank goes the way of the jacket. She breathes out, and her chest settles, and the sun catches the slope of one breast and puts a hard gold edge on it while the other stays in shadow.
The Zip, the Denim, the Slow Reveal
She stands up to deal with the jeans, and she does it facing the mirror, so you get the front of her and the back of her at the same time, doubled and warped in the old glass. The button is stubborn. She works it with two fingers, tongue between her teeth, and when it gives she drags the zip down tooth by tooth so you can hear every single one. Then she pushes the denim over her hips and lets it fall and steps out of it, and the mirror shows the small dark shadow between her thighs and the pale band of skin the jeans had been hiding and the red line of the seam still pressed into her hip. She hooks her thumbs into the waistband of her underwear and pauses there, watching herself in the glass, watching you watch her, and the pause stretches out until it starts to feel like a dare.
She takes them down. Not fast. She bends at the waist to peel them off her ankles, and the sun lands flat across her back and her ass and the backs of her thighs, and everything in the room goes very still and very warm. When she straightens up she is bare, all of her, and she does not cover anything, does not fold her arms, does not do the little self-conscious hunch most people do. She just stands in the middle of that amber bar of light with her hands on her hips and her chin up and lets herself be looked at.
What She Did With the Last Layer
After that she climbs onto the windowsill, and the city is right there behind her, and she does not care who might look up. She sits sideways with one knee drawn up and the other leg hanging, and the light comes through the glass and paints her in stripes from the window frame. She runs her own hands over herself like she is checking the temperature of something — down the front of her throat, flat over her sternum, palms dragging slow across her ribs, over her belly, and then lower, and her head tips back against the frame and her mouth opens. Her fingers move in a lazy circle and her hips roll to meet them and the whole windowsill creaks a little under her weight. She keeps her eyes on you the entire time, or almost the entire time, and when her breath starts coming short and ragged she stops fighting it and lets it happen, lets her thighs shake and her heel thump once against the glass, and then she goes loose and heavy and grinning, still bare, still lit up gold, and the sun slides off the sill and leaves her in the soft blue of early evening.
